Debate: Freedom of the press, social media & fake news
Media freedom in Greece is no longer just about the traditional press — it also concerns the Internet, social media, and the digital platforms where public discourse is shaped on a daily basis. In an era of low trust in the news, fake news, trolls, anonymous comments, and organized disinformation, this debate examines how freedom of expression can be protected without undermining the quality of public discourse. Drawing on international indicators such as the Reuters Institute Digital News Report and the Reporters Without Borders press freedom rankings, the discussion focuses on the role of government, the opposition, the media, and digital platforms in addressing modern threats to information and democracy.
Participants include Pavlos Marinakis, Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister & Government Spokesperson, and Pavlos Christidis, Member of Parliament & Parliamentary Spokesperson for PASOK - KINAL.
